This is a site dedicated to the great High School of Music and Art. Even though I personally went to Performing Arts, I started this site for all of the alumni of this great school. Performing Arts and Music and Art had a lot of similarities. For people who are telling me that these are the wrong years M&A was open please realize that this school is about Music and Art that was open until 1984 when it merged with Performing Arts. I've been getting a lot of emails from people who say that they graduated in 1991 and later. This is impossible. If you graduated after 1987 you probably graduated from LaGuardia. The Performing Arts students had friends from Music and Art and visa versa. Both of these fine schools merged in 1984 into the LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Now known as LaGuardia Arts as of September 2004. What a wonderful child we both created. Enough philosophizing for now. All alumni from this great school are welcome to join. All Alumni from Performing Arts can join their own site http://www.performing-arts-hs.com. I hope all enjoy both sites and I hope people from this great school will join me in making this site better and better. Also visit our links page to visit LaGuardia and the Friends and Alumni of LaGuardia. Feel free to sign up and put your comments in. Please note that we reserve the right to edit or delete postings that are in bad taste. |

Bill Schelly is writing a book on Joe Kubert, who attended Music and Art from 1941 to 1943.
He is
vitally interested in finding:
1. Any yearbook photos of Joe Kubert, Norman
Maurer or Alvin Hollingsworth from this period,
2. Photographs of the school, inside especially,
from the WWII era, and
3. Specific information from the WWII era, such
as: number of students, titles of art courses
offered, name of the school newspaper, and any
written accounts by alumni who were there at
that time.
He has
been all over the internet and only found the
most general information. He would love to be in
contact with any alumni (who would be 76-80
years old now) who have sharp and vivid
memories, or anything at all to share.
Joe Kubert, of course, went on to become one of
the greatest comic book and comic strip artists
of all time, and is still working at it today.
Any leads at all would be appreciated!!!
