Welcome to the

High School of Music and Art

Alumni Web Site

Why I am no longer going to maintain this site

Hi All M&A Alumni,

Below is an email I received from one of your alumni. I tried to do a good thing with this site but just get beat up by people like Veda

See below:

My Last email to Veda

Dear Veda,

I get hundreds of emails a day from the PA and M&A sites and if you don't like a blunt answer then get off your butt and help to make this site what it should be.

Just go to http://www.highschoolofperforminarts.com and you’ll see what I want the M&A site to do. I was willing to do this free. Just to help M&A alumni that I was friends with when I went to PA.

To see snippy answers from someone who

  1. Doesn’t appreciate what I’ve tried to do
  2. Doesn’t read what the site is saying
  3. Doesn’t care about anything but getting information “they” want and to hell with the person trying to do a good deed

shows me the type of person you probably are. Your letter is now on the main page of the M&A site for all to see and I’m going to leave it like that for eternity because of people like you.

I hope you find what you’re looking for but with that attitude don't bother asking me again.

Sincerely,

Steve Lewis

Dear "I don't have time to go any further with it",

Thank you so much for your swift and somewhat blunt explanation.  Sorry to have bothered you with my inquiry but I would like to express (for the record, and only if you have the time) why I wasted my time (and believe me, I really don't have the time either) to use your email adress as a point of reference.  If you have the time, please look at the way the email adress is designed:  it does not say PA HS but rather M&A HS.  Logic would tell me that if I were to seek information regarding alumni, I would use this address as a starting point.

Furthermore, I would like to add that I did not know you graduated from PA and not M&A.  Since you do not have the time, you probably did not have the time to tell me this tidbit of information.

In conclusion, I would like to add that life is not a dress rehearsal.  Hopefully you will find the time to enjoy it.

Regards,

Veda

I’m not too sure if I already told you but LaGuardia High is the best place for you to start. My site needs work and I just don't have time. I'm a PA graduate and not an M&A graduate. I started this site for people to hopefully take over and run it themselves but I just don't have time to go any further with it.

Call LaGuardia.

Steve

I am sending you this email again because I still have not received any response from your organization regarding my requests.  I suspect you might be overwhelmed  with a heavy work- load or (worse) have deleted my message by mistake from your PC.  At any rate, would it be possible to scout the whereabouts of the three names listed?  If not, could you please direct me to someone who might be willing to supply the information?

Thanks so much for your time, effort and help.

Regards,

Hello, My name is Veda F. B.  I was an art major and graduated M&A H.S. in June 1962.

I have tried unsuccessfully  to find friends and ex-classmates through the MA alumni association website.  Would it be possible to trace their whereabouts through you?

Basically I am looking for the following people:

1.  Eunice Lipton , music major, class of 1958 (?)

2. Noel Catala, art major, class of 1962

3.  Irene Kaminsky, art major, class of 1962

Since the 1958 graduating class is having their reunion shortly, it might  be easy to trace Eunice's email address through the list of participants.  If not, could you advise me regarding what office or organization would be able to furnish this info. ?

Sorry but I really don't have any additional info. regarding Noel or Irene.  Could you give me some updates?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Regards,

Veda

This is a site dedicated to the great High School of Music and Art. Even though I personally went to Performing Arts, I started this site for all of the alumni of this great school. Performing Arts and Music and Art had a lot of similarities.

For people who are telling me that these are the wrong years M&A was open please realize that this school is about Music and Art that was open until 1984 when it merged with Performing Arts. I've been getting a lot of emails from people who say that they graduated in 1991 and later. This is impossible. If you graduated after 1987 you probably graduated from LaGuardia.

The Performing Arts students had friends from Music and Art and visa versa. Both of these fine schools merged in 1984 into the LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and Performing Arts, Now known as LaGuardia Arts as of September 2004. What a wonderful child we both created.

Enough philosophizing for now. All alumni from this great school are welcome to join. All Alumni from Performing Arts can join their own site http://www.performing-arts-hs.com. I hope all enjoy both sites and I hope people from this great school will join me in making this site better and better. Also visit our links page to visit LaGuardia and the Friends and Alumni of LaGuardia.

Bill Schelly is writing a book on Joe Kubert, who attended Music and Art from 1941 to 1943.

He is vitally interested in finding:

1. Any yearbook photos of Joe Kubert, Norman Maurer or Alvin Hollingsworth from this period,
2. Photographs of the school, inside especially, from the WWII era, and
3. Specific information from the WWII era, such as:  number of students, titles of art courses offered, name of the school newspaper, and any written accounts by alumni who were there at that time.

He has been all over the internet and only found the most general information. He would love to be in contact with any alumni (who would be 76-80 years old now) who have sharp and vivid memories, or anything at all to share.

Joe Kubert, of course, went on to become one of the greatest comic book and comic strip artists of all time, and is still working at it today.

Any leads at all would be appreciated!!!
